In 2004, CCSB through its associate company Recycle Energy Sdn. Bhd. received approval from the Selangor State Government to build Malaysia’s first ever Resource Recovery Centre in Semenyih. The facility utilises our award winning Waste to Energy Technology to produce an alternative engineered fuel derived from solids.
The plant employs a range of mechanical, biological and thermal processes to maximize the recovery of items from co-mingled MSW. These processes create wealth by separating the various components of the waste into non-combustible items that can be reused and recycled while the combustible, high calorific waste is converted into an alternative solid derived industrial fuel, which can be used as feedstock in furnaces, boilers and kilns.
The organic components of the MSW are separated and converted into compost whilst the leachate is collected and biologically treated to ‘class A’ water, which can be safely discharged back into the environment.
The Semenyih facility incorporates a power plant, which currently generates 9MW of electricity from a daily intake of 700 tons of MSW. 3MWs are used internally to power the plant and the remaining 5MWs are exported to the national grid.
About 20 percent of the co-mingled waste contains items that cannot be reclaimed. These are inert substances that have no recycle, reuse, thermal or biological value and are sent to the sanitary landfill.
By converting waste to wealth and energy, CCSB has taken a positive step towards reducing global warming by eliminating the generation of landfill methane and by providing a sustainable replacement for fossil fuels
